Happy New Year! So many changes are happening in my collection and activities this year. We are moving out our larger trees to auction, focusing on smaller trees of a wide spectrum of species, and hopefully going back to work in the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt again. As we age, we must adjust the quantity and quality, size and complexity of our trees. I have seen too many folks lose fantastic trees because they did not adjust their collections soon enough. I will not have that happen to me. Trees that have a legacy will need to go to new owners who have the skills to maintain them for the long term. A smaller collection will allow more time dedicated to higher refinement.
Below you will see the exceptional Fall color on my Daimyo Oak and a little shohin Japanese Black pine. From large to small the garden is amazing to watch.

I will bring you along on that journey this year. Be safe out there.
